Kempton racing Tips
The Alan King-trained, HER INDOORS, was useful on the flat and showed plenty of promise on hurdles debut when second in a listed contest at Aintree three weeks ago. With more improvement to come, representing a yard who often do well in this race, she looks sure to go well.
HONNEUR D’ANONC achieved some good time-figures when second first time out last month behind a subsequent easy winner. She is also declared in the 13.40 at Chepstow, but if connections take up this engagement, she’s worth considering.
Selections: HER INDOORS, HONNEUR D’AJONC
13.20 – Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase – 2m
A small but select field goes to post for this Grade-Two prize. Gumball will be a worthy opponent to SHISHKIN if he stands on his feet, but the Nicky Henderson-trained six-year-old and Arkle favourite, should take plenty of beating. He was the winner of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March and looks destined to take high rank in this sphere having been flawless on chase debut here last month.
A wide-open Handicap Hurdle and I quite fancy DANSE IDOL to run a big race. Although she didn’t make a successful chasing debut as many would have expected, the Paul Nicholls-trained, Danse Idol, was undoubtedly the best of these over hurdles and is worth another chance. Her form in that sphere, particularly when runner-up in a couple of Listed events and a Grade Two reads well in the context of tomorrow’s race and her mark looks attractive.
Whilst the hat-trick seeking EMMPRESSIVE LADY and Olly Murphy-trained ALPHA CARINAE have the form in the book to be competitive in a race of this nature. It wouldn’t come as a surprise to see either of the improving participants run well at respectable odds.
Selections: DANSE IDOL, EMMPRESSIVE LADY, ALPHA CARINAE
14.30 – Ladbrokes Desert Orchid Chase – 2m
We haven’t seen him for a long time, but the two-time Champion Chase winner, ALTIOR, should prove very hard to beat as he makes his eagerly-awaited return to action. The ten-year-old is unbeaten over two-miles over obstacles and should have too many gears for his opposition despite a long absence to overcome.
SCEAU ROYAL chased him home in the Game Spirit at Newbury and has held his form well ever since. He was only third in this race twelve months ago but perhaps the soft ground blunted his turn of foot and under more favourable conditions, he looks the ideal alternative to the market leader.
Selections: ALTIOR, SCEAU ROYAL
15.05 – Ladbrokes Committed To Safer Gambling Handicap – 3m
It could be worth taking a chance on the much-improved, MANOFTHEMOUNTAIN, who is a winner of four of his five completed starts over fences. He looked on good terms with himself when fourth at Cheltenham last time and the form has taken a huge boost given the first and third have won the King George and Ladbrokes Trophy subsequently. He remains on an unchanged mark of 137 and looks competitive, form-wise.
CAP DU NORD returned to winning ways in a big field last month and looks bound to go well with a similar performance. Finally, COMMANCHE RED was decent over hurdles and although he’s been below his best the last two times, his earlier form would bring him right into the equation.
Selections: MANOFTHEMOUNTAIN, CAP DU NORD, COMMANCHE RED
This looks highly-competitive and the nine-year-old EDDIEMAURICE has been an excellent servant for his yard. He’s regularly been competitive in this event over the years having won it in 2018 and should be spot on for this task following last month’s effort at Ascot.
RIVER BRAY can be very temperamental but finally came good when given an excellent ride by Tom Scudamore three weeks ago. He’s up 6Ib in this much deeper race, but looks to have solid each-way claims once more.
Dan Skelton’s CADZAND placed in a couple of bumpers last season and ran out an impressive winner at Warwick last month. He looks sure to keep on improving and his current mark of 129 could prove lenient in due course.
Selections: EDDIEMAURICE, RIVER BRAY, CADZAND
