Political Betting: Odds Against Congress Appointing Electoral Commission

  • Sports bettors are taking action on Under 2.5 total states’ votes will be objected at -200.
  • Sports bettors are betting against congress appointing an Electoral Commission at -2500.
  • There is also action being put on the total number of senators to object to the Electoral College ratification.

WASHINGTON – Although the United States is just a few weeks away from the official transition of power from the Donald Trump administration to the Joe Biden administration, sports bettors still have plenty of political odds to wager on.

Sports bettors are currently wagering on the Electoral College ratification, as many GOP senators and red states are expected to object to the results of the election in a final attempt to keep President Donald Trump in power.

Those betting on the 2020 US Presidential Election seem to be leaning towards the Under on total states and senators to object the ratification.

Trump’s Fight Continues

On Wednesday, the official Electoral College ratification will be challenged by many GOP figures and sports bettors are wagering on the total number of objections.

For starters, there is heavy action being taken on “Under 2.5 states” votes to be objected. Pennsylvania and Georgia are two of the three swing states that were nail-biting victories for Joe Biden. The results in these states have specifically been criticized by the Trump administration for potential fraud.

How many states’ votes will be objected Odds

  • Under 2.5 Total State -200
  • Over 2.5 Total State +150

As these two states have been the main focus publicly by President Trump for months following the election, it is no surprise that sports bettors are taking action on the Under as no other state has been publicly criticized to the same degree by the GOP.

In Georgia specifically, Trump has even been exposed by the Washington Post to have reached out to Georgia legislators in an attempt to have the results overturned.

“So look,” said President Trump to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state. The people of Georgia are angry. The people in the country are angry. And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.”

For underdog bettors, it should be noted that Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona were early targets of fraud claims by the President. In fact, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin all had lawsuits brought up by Trump.

It is entirely possible that these six states could all see objections come January 6, which would make underdog bettors big winners as a result.

In addition to states, sports bettors are wagering on the total number of Senators that will object. Current odds at legal sports betting sites show sports bettors are also taking the Under.

Total SEN object to Electoral College ratification Odds

  • Under 11.5 Total Senators -200
  • Over 11.5 Total Senators +150

While sports bettors are putting action on the Under, 11 Republican senators have already confirmed they plan to object to the Electoral College votes alongside more than 100 GOP House members.

Confirmed Senators are Senators Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, James Lankford, Steve Daines, John Kennedy, Marsha Blackburn, and Mike Braun and Senators-elect Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall, Bill Hagerty, and Tommy Tuberville.

This means only one more senator is needed for underdog bettors to cash in big. With the public support Trump has garnered from most of the Republican Party, underdog bettors should lean in on these odds early before another Senator shows their public support.

The next betting line that is garnering a lot of attention at online sportsbooks is whether or not Congress will appoint an Electoral Commission.

Will Congress appoint an Electoral Commission

  • No -2500
  • Yes +800

Despite the push from the GOP, the odds are truly against the possibility of an Electoral College Commission being enforced to review the election on January 6.

“Congress should immediately appoint an Electoral Commission, with full investigatory and fact-finding authority, to conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns in the disputed states,” said a joint statement by the 11 confirmed objecting Senators.

With President-Elect Joe Bien expected to take charge in a few short weeks, it is highly unlikely that a commission of this magnitude would be approved.

The final betting line sports bettors are wagering on is if the Electoral College ratification will reach day two. Sports bettors expect everything to be dealt with on Wednesday.

Will Electoral College ratification reach Day 2 Odds

  • No -750
  • Yes +450

In the same vein that it is unlikely for an Electoral Commission to be instated, the Electoral College Ratification reaching day two is also unlikely. There simply is not that much tie between now and Joe Biden taking office.

Sports bettors looking to take the longshot odds will be making a huge gamble, however, the slim chance that the GOP manages to convince the Electoral College to continue investigating, even for one day, will result in a major upset.
