The $100,000 Tropical Turf Stakes will run as Race 10 on the Jan. 9 card at Gulfstream Park.
The event for 4-year-olds and up will cover one mile on turf and include names like Analyze It, Admission Office, and Tusk among the field of nine.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Tropical Turf Stakes.
Betting Preview: Analyze It, Admission Office
One of the leading names among the field is William Lawrence’s Analyze It. The 6-year-old son of Point of Entry is trained by Chad Brown.
He has a career record of 4-3-1 from 10 starts and earnings of $853,150.
He is coming off an eighth-place finish in the Oct. 3 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, where he registered a 112 Speed Figure. His other performances include a Sept. 5 victory in the Red Bank Stakes (G3) at Monmouth Park, a third-place run in the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Churchill Downs, and a fourth-place finish in the Oct. 6 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.
Analyze It will break from post 6 under jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.
He will be going up against Amerman Racing’s Admission Office. The 6-year-old son of Point of Entry is trained by Brian Lynch.
He is 4-5-2 from 14 career starts with earnings of $432,957.
Last time out, he scored the June 13 Louisville Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs, registering a 114 Speed Figure. He also finished fourth in the May 9 Sunshine Forever Stakes, second in the Feb. 29 Mac Diarmida Stakes (G2), and eighth in the Jan. 25 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (G1), all at Gulfstream Park.
Admission Office will break from post 1 under rider Julien Leparoux.
Betting Preview: Tusk
Another runner to pay attention to is Jordan Wycoff’s Tusk. The 8-year-old gelding from Tapit is trained by Saffie A. Joseph, Jr.
He has a career record of 8-7-6 from 38 starts and earnings of $442,267.
His most recent performance was an eighth-place finish in the Dec. 5 Claiming Crown Emerald Stakes at Gulfstream Park. He also scored the Jan. 11 Tropical Turf Stakes (G3) last year at the track, registering a 114 Speed Figure.
Tusk will break from post 7 under rider Luis Saez.
The rest of the field (post, jockey) is set to include: Casa Creed (Post 2, J. Alvarado); Ride a Comet (Post 3, T. Gaffalione); Doctor Mounty (Post 4, J. L. Ortiz); Frostmourne (Post 5, J. R. Velazquez); Hay Dakota (Post 8, P. Lopez); and Flying Scotsman (Post 9, C. J. Lanerie).
Free Betting Pick
Analyze It is a top choice coming into the race. With multiple Grade 1 placings, including a narrow loss in the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), he will look to start his campaign off strongly. He was out for the 2019 season and for most of 2020, but he returned last September to take the Red Bank (G3). A lot of eyes will be turned to Analyze It as he looks to prove his skill after such a long break.
