What’s the best way to win a Superbowl? Some teams build up over many years accruing
youngsters through the draft and seeing them mature into game-winners, adding carefully selected Free Agent stars to enhance the group in the hope of lifting the Lombardi Trophy.
This season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took an entirely different approach. They invested plenty of money on veterans ready to win now in what is clearly head coach Bruce Arians ‘shot at the moon’ over this and perhaps next season.
In came the likes of GOAT Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown, Leonard Fournette, LeSean McCoy, Ndamukong Suh and Jason Pierre Paul to add to a roster that already boasted the likes of Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Ronald Jones and Devin White.
The result has been a 9-5 season so far, the Bucs need just one more win to confirm a place in the playoffs and they can achieve that this weekend against the Detroit Lions.
Tampa Bay’s Latest Superbowl Odds
The heavy investment in experience and quality in the pre-season saw many people tip the Bucs as potential Superbowl winners and before the season kicked off, their odds tumbled with many sportsbooks ahead of the opening game of the season.
However, despite winning nine games it has been something of an underwhelming campaign for the Bucs in many respects and with trusted sportsbook service BetRivers, they are +1400 to win the Superbowl this season, tied on those odds with the Baltimore Ravens, a team that may not yet even make it into the playoffs.
That said, Tom Brady and co remain just one game away from the playoffs and no player in the NFL has quite as much experience and knowhow of how to win Playoff games as the six-time Superbowl Champion Brady. It is perhaps now that the Bucs big investment in the 41-year-old will pay off most handsomely.
But what about the Lions?
Last week’s 46-25 defeat to the Tennessee Titans officially ruled the Detroit Lions out of playoff
contention for another season, but in truth they were already very unlikely to make the grade from the NFC given the number of teams with better records than them.
On the road, the Lions have a decent record, winning half of their eight games, but they are 1-5 at home and with the game against the Bucs taking place at an empty Ford Field, and with the Lions having little to play for other than pride, it seems likely the Bucs will get that win they need to ensure post-season participation.
It’s hard to make out just how good, or bad, the Lions are. Their 5-9 record is not that of a good team, but they have pushed a number of top teams hard this season including Green Bay, the Colts, the Titans and the Saints. They have beaten Washington, Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears but finding consistent wins has been a real problem for Matt Stafford and company.
How do we see the Buccaneers @ Lions Game Turning Out?
Both these teams are struggling on defense. The Lions shipped 46 points against the Titans last week and they have conceded 40 points or more against other top offenses like the Packers, Colts and Texans.
Tampa’s defense though is not the best and they have shipped over 25 points six times this season, so I do feel this is a game which will see both teams rack up points. As such, I feel the Over 53.5 total points bet is a good option here.
Of course, I think Tampa will land the win but I feel the -9.5 handicap, given the number of close games they have been involved in recently, just tips the bet in favour of the Lions at +9.5. I see the Bucs winning, but not by more than a touchdown.
